System migration across two manufacturers

Context

The MAN TGE is built in cooperation with Volkswagen: VW manufactures the vehicle, so the technical systems around the vehicle come from the VW world, from diagnostics to maintenance instructions and repair manuals. Workshops worldwide access them through the MAN Service Portal without having to log in separately to the VW landscape.

Starting point

A central documentation system on the VW side is being replaced by a successor system. For the workshops, the familiar, seamless access via the MAN Service Portal has to work with the new system just as it did before, without disruption to their daily work.

My role

I manage the transition on the MAN side as the responsible project manager.

Approach

The three core strands: the SSO connection to the new system, so that access remains as seamless for the workshops as before, the go-live planning with all parties on both corporate sides, and the coordination of training materials with the internal academy, so that workshops experience the change prepared rather than surprised. Go-live is scheduled for the end of 2026.

What I take away

A migration has only succeeded when the user barely notices it. The real work is not in the new system but in the transitions: access, timing, preparing the people.
